The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation NNPC, says the ongoing revamping of the Port-Harcourt refinery is part of its efforts to ensure seamless supply of petroleum products across the country.
The Group General Manager Public Affairs Division of the NNPC, Mr Ndu Ughamadu disclosed this in an interview with Abuchi Nwozor at the NNPC towers in Abuja.
According to Mr Ughamadu, NNPC sourced the fund for the revamping exercise through its subsidiaries and expressed optimism that work will soon be completed in the facility to enable NNPC carry out such revamping work in Kaduna and Warri refineries, in its efforts to serve the country better.
The NNPC spokesman who maintained that revamping of refineries is not the same as turn-around maintenance as it involves changing all the units in the refinery, adding that on completion, the Port Harcourt refinery will be able to produce ninety per cent of its initial capacity of two hundred and ten barrels per day.
He disclosed that the NNPC has concluded plans to build more Mega stations across the country to ensure that each Senatorial District in the country benefits from its services.
Mr Ughamadu, who maintained that the pump price of petrol still remains one hundred and forty-five naira per litre, advised Nigerians to remain vigilant and report to the Department of Petroleum Resources DPR or to the law enforcement agency any station selling petrol beyond one hundred and forty-five naira per litre.
He urged Nigerians not to engage in panic buying this Easter period assuring that NNPC has enough petroleum products stock in its fifty-five depots across the country.
Mr Ughamadu, explained that two vessels of fifty million litres of petrol have started arriving Nigeria on daily basis.
