Anambra State government says it has enrolled over thirty thousand participants in its Health Insurance Scheme.
The Executive Secretary of the Anambra Health Insurance Agency, ASHIA, Dr. Simeon Onyemechi disclosed this while flagging off the 2019 Nurses week of the School of Nursing, Iyi Enu Mission Hospital, Ogidi.
The opening ceremony was another opportunity to tutor the student nurses and midwives of the school on their various responsibilities, especially as it concerns the scheme.
In the year one thousand eight hundred and twenty, Florence Nightingale of Britain started what is today known as the nursing profession and these students affirmed that they were called to serve humanity.
Addressing the assemblage made up of Student Nurses and their teachers, Dr. Onyemechi who spoke in dual capacity since he also represented the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Joe Akabike, said in the past five years, Anambra State Health sector had undergone series of reforms including upgrade of over sixty eight Primary Health Centres,initiation of the Health Care Insurance Scheme which is now backed by law, payment of the one hundred million naira basic health counterpart fund among others.
He stressed that the state government is poised to reducing out of pocket health expenses from ninety percent to thirty percent by the year twenty- twenty.
He called on all hands to be on deck to realise the objectives while charging the Student Nurses to overlook the mistakes of the older generation and do their bit to change the narrative.
In a lecture on “Aseptic techniques”, the Vice Principal of the School, Academics, Mrs. Ogechukwu Ekwugha said that to protect a patient from harmful bacteria, aseptic technique must be employed so as to eliminate germs entirely.
Another lecturer, Mr. Uche Ikeh who described hepatitis as an inflammation of the liver gave its symptoms to include fatigue, flu like symptoms, dark urine, pale stool, abdominal pain, loss ofappetite, yellow skin and unexplained weight loss.
The ceremony also featured questions and answer, cutting of cake and presentation of awards.
