Palm Sunday is a day Christians commemorate the triumphant entry of Jesus Christ into Jerusalem as a king.

It is the beginning of Passion or Holy Week which will include Maundy Thursday, Good Friday and Holy Saturday f before the Easter Sunday.

Speaking on the significance of the day, the founder Holy Ghost Adoration Ministry, Nigeria, Reverend Father Emmanuel Chibuzo Obimma, said that the day is reminding Christians of the supremacy of Kingship of Christ over all.

Reverend Father Obimma said palm signifies peace and Christians as Christ’ representative in the world should promote peace, justice and as well reflect Christ in all they do for his peace and oneness to prevail even as he advised Christians to love one another and embrace righteousness and holiness.

The Cathedral Administrator of Cathedral Church of Saint John’s Anglican Church Ekwulobia, Venerable Jonathan Nwankwo said Palm Sunday marks the end of earthly ministry of Christ and ushers them to Passion Week when they reminisce the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Venerable Nwankwo maintained that the day marks the authority and kingship of Christ as the Messiah and saviour to the world calling on Christians to emulate and embrace humility and sacrifice as Christ did, advising those in authorities not to use their position to intimidate others but to fight for the good of others.

In their various speeches, the Archdeacon of Agulu Group of Churches and Vicar of Saint Stephen’s Church Agulu, Venerable Silas Ike stated that Palm Sunday is all about liberation, freedom and applying in service instruments of that which God desires, adding that it reminded Christians of the passions of the son of God for them.

Several masses and service will be celebrated in various churches to mark Palm Sunday.
