Farmers in Umueze – Anam have lauded the state government for the cottage hospital under construction within the farmers’ camps at Ogbuakwu-Umueze Anam.
The cottage hospital which was started barely two months ago by the state government, is nearing completion.
According to Chief Stephen Okafor, a stakeholder from the community, the hospital on completion will take care of the health needs of farmers who find it difficult to go long distance to access treatment.
He asserted that the town has gained so much from the present administration in the state.
For Mrs Cecilia Okonkwo, a groundnut farmer and Mr Onuora Orjiako, a yam and cassava farmer, the cottage hospital will save the lives of farmers who work day and night in the farm.
They pleaded with the state government to sink a borehole in the hospital for them as they lack portable water in the camp.
They promised that if provided with loans and modernized farming facilities they would be able to produce the expected quantity and ensure food security in Anambra State.
Also Mr. Chinwuba Emeka, another stakeholder in Umueze-Anam, appealed to the government to device means of ensuring that loan facilities get to the community where genuine farmers are concentrated.
Staff reporter Oggorchukwu Oranu who visited Ogbuakwu stream that provides water to the farmers observed that the water needed to be purified.
