Legendary highlife genius, Professor Goddy Ezike known for the philosophical appeals of his music, has called on musicians to promote societal values and morals with their songs.
Correspondent, David Okpokwasili sat down with Professor Ezike in a one on one interview at his Amichi Country home, Nnewi South Local Government Area where he aired his views on these issues and other national matters.
“Double Prof,” like he would like to be described, is in the class of the evergreen Highlife Artise like Chief Osita Osadebe and Oliver de Coque both of blessed memory.
Like his contemporaries, he built his music around the Igbo world view and philosophy but takes it higher by insisting on passing lasting messages on his listener and unlike them, he does not engage in praise singing of his patrons.
In his popular tracks, “Uso Ka na Ndu,” his new release “Monkey Police” and many others, Professor Ezike insists music must be used to achieve societal good as he called on new generation musicians to change their narrative of promoting insecurity, materialism, and immorality for more enduring life changing messages.
Surely, his legacies will not be left to die as a group led by Mrs. Chinemerem Anyi, Lawrence Obusi popularly called “Sewa Sewa”, and many others under the nongovernmental organization, “Relief Pitch Initiative” is making plans to sustain those legacies, Professor Goddy Ezike is known for.
This action will perhaps spark the fire to change the narrative in promoting people who have made their contributions to development and change the end goal of musicians. Only time will tell.
