A ten Man Federal Government IFAD-VCDP team is currently in Anambra State for a two-day working visit tagged Federal Government IFAD-VCDP Seventh Supervision Mission.
The team led by IFAD Country Representative Mrs Nadne Gbossa, will after the tour and interaction with farmers at various Local Government Areas conclude with a wrap-up session.
Speaking during the visit the IFAD country Representative, Mrs Gbossa restated their resolve to deepen intervention in the State based on the successes recorded by the programme in recent time.
She listed increase in youths and women participation, nutrition, food market and security as well as financial services for sustainability as major areas they will consider.
The National Programme Co-ordinator, Federal Government IFAD VCDP, Dr Ameh Onoja who expressed happiness with the progress of implementation announced that the programme which will wind up in December this year has been extended and captioned Additional Financing.
Dr Onoja commended Anambra State for the prompt payment of its counterpart funding and providing an enabling and friendly environment for the programme to thrive.
The team drawn from National Office of IFAD-VCDP, different Federal Ministries and Agencies and other Agric stakeholders had earlier, paid a courtesy visit to Governor Willie Obiano.
The Governor represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Professor Solo Chukwulobelu said on the inception of the administration, Anambra State was producing only three hundred metric tons of rice but through it collaboration with intervention programmes like the Federal Government IFAD-VCDP, the State is now producing above one thousand metric tons and is at present exporting Anambra brand rice to other States and eventually outside the country.
He urged the team to establish a synergy with FADAMA and other intervention programmes for diversification.
Governor Obiano, however announced that they are compiling a sector by sector compendium of the State government’s achievements in eight years for easy verification.
Shortly after the courtesy visit the team left for a field tour of Ayamelum and Anambra West Local Government Areas where they interacted with farmers, processors, rice and cassava recipes producers among others.
