WRITTEN BY REV. CANON KENNETH MADUKA
Today is Easter Sunday. It is the day Christians celebrate the resurrection of Christ from dead, which marks the end of the Holy week.
Easter is one of the most important basic pillars of the Christian faith. For without the resurrection of Jesus Christ from death, after three days, there would be no hope for the Christians our Lord Jesus is alive and not in the grave.
Really, Christian Bible believers, by faith, believe that Jesus rose from the dead, three days after His death by crucifixion on the cross of Calvary. All Christian churches agree that Jesus and God the Almighty are at the centre of the Christian faith. Faith, belief and complete acceptance of the death, burial and resurrection are very essential to Christians for two main reasons.
First, Christians, by faith, will live their entire lives, according to and in agreement with the Bible Commandments and Teachings from the Old to the New Testament. In the process of their daily lives, the Believers will expect and receive the provisions of basic needs, guidance from evil or law breakers in the societies in which they live; protection from unwelcome dangers or harms; healing of the body and mind; miracles and such alike. These are attributed to come from God and because the Christian Bible Believers are living in obedience to the scriptures each day.
The second has to do with Eternal Life from God. This is the ultimate reward for Christian Believers. They all do what the Bible says until their deaths so they will receive their rewards in Heaven. However, since, in recent contemporary time, no one has actually seen someone died, went to heaven and returned to testify that this is real. Someone, unbelief in this, does not make the Word of God and the Christian Faith untrue or foolish as mentioned in Romans Chapter three, verses three and four.
Therefore, the belief in God until the end or when the Christian Believer dies is essential. The importance of this is mentioned in Matthew Chapter twenty-four from verses eleven to thirteen, for the doubting Thomases. To a Christian Believer or any individual for that matter, death is the end of the process of life as we humans know and understand the relationship between life and death. Be that as it may, the Bible speaks about Eternal Life in Heaven for those who believe God and obey His Commandments until his or her death.
So, the significance of the principle of Easter, which is the death, burial and resurrection, becomes critical to a Believer and Eternal Life. We should also remember that eternal life is granted to those who keep or obey God’s Commandments all the days of their lives until natural death from life.
Therefore, Easter has great significance to Christian Bible Believers all around the world. A Christian is usually someone who believes in God, the Bible, has repented from sins, is baptized by water and received the Holy Spirit from God. Then, the person has the duty to live and obey God’s Commandments to receive divine blessings and provisions during his or her life and then Eternal Life in Heaven from obeying the Commandments. This vital information is true and the scriptures can be read in the Christian Bible.
Whichever way we may look at it, the process to get to Heaven and the teachings of each Church Denomination and Practice will differ in some respects. Whether one likes it or not, all real Christian church members of the congregations must obey God’s Commandments to be accepted by God and receive the ultimate reward of Eternal Life in Heaven after the natural life has ended.
Easter is, therefore, very important because it proved that Jesus is who he says He is. He is God in the flesh and He came to earth to save us. Without the doctrine of the celebration of Jesus’ death, burial and resurrection from the dead, there is no Christianity and no Christian Easter. Halleluiah, Christ has risen, He has risen in deed.
