The Prime Minister of Sri Lanka, Ranil Wickremesinghe has announced the arrest of eight people in connection with the Sri Lanka’s Easter Sunday blasts.

Prime Minister Wickremesinghe who unveiled this while briefing reporters in Colombo said it is not yet clear who is responsible, though Sri Lanka’s Defence Minister said they were probably carried out by one group.

He mentioned alleged existence of prior information of an attack which he said was not shared with him.

A foreign ministry official said at least twenty-seven foreign nationals were among the dead.

A national curfew has been put in place “until further notice” and social media networks have been temporarily blocked.

Meanwhile, the Defence Minister, Ruwan Wijewardene urged the media not to publish names linked to the attacks, saying that it could lead to tension between communities.

According to report, one of the bombers waited in a queue for a buffet at the high-end Cinnamon Grand, a luxury hotel in Colombo before detonating the explosives.

A statue of Jesus Christ inside one of the churches that was attacked is being widely shared on social media as it remains erect, unscratched and undamaged.
