Implementation of the new national minimum wage will add over two billion naira wage bill on the state government’s monthly expenses.
Governor Willie Obiano disclosed this at a get together with some Staff of the Anambra Broadcasting Service and members of the Government House Press Corps.
Speaking at the event which took place at the Governor’s residence at Aguleri in Anambra East Local Government Area, Governor Obiano said he will pay the new minimum wage as he promised workers in the state.
Governor Obiano called for concerted efforts towards improving the state’s Internally Generated Revenue to aid the government in carrying out other important expenses for enhancing development of the state.
The Governor, who said that he was impressed with the current output of the Anambra Broadcasting Service, noted that he has put machineries in motion to ensure that the station is accommodated on DSTV.
Governor Obiano noted that he watches ABS on YouTube and appreciated the staff for their hard-work and resilience, especially the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Chief Uche Nworah.
The Governor disclosed that the State government has invested over two point nine billion naira to give the ABS its present digital status.
Quoting some areas of improvement, Governor Obiano revealed that after the implementation of the new minimum wage which he said will add over two billion naira to the State government’s wage bill he will do more interventions for the ABS and its staff.
For his part, a member of the Board of Management of the government owned electronic Media and the traditional Ruler of Nteje in Oyi Local Government area, Igwe Roland Odegbo, thanked the Governor for the commendation, urging the Staff of the station to be focused and committed to duty.
