Obiano Restates Resolve To Pay Minimum Wage Before Other States

Governor Willie Obiano has reassured that he will be the first Governor in the country to pay the new national minimum wage.

The Governor gave the assurance during the Nigeria Labour Congress, Anambra state Council quadrennial delegate’s conference held in Awka.

The conference which was well attended by both state and national delegates of the Union provided them the opportunity to deliberate on how to ensure better life for workers in the state as well as elect executive members that will run the affairs of the state arm of the Congress for the next four years.

Governor Obiano represented by his Deputy, Dr. Nkem Okeke while describing workers as one of the viable tools for the actualization of every government’s vision and plans for the masses, commended the state labour body for supporting the present administration, promising to reciprocate the gesture through effective improvement of the workers’ welfare and implementation of the new national minimum wage.

The Governor charged the incoming state leadership of the congress to toe the path of the immediate past leadership of the union led by Comrade Jerry Nnubia which he said cooperated with the state government.

He called on the entire members of the union to continue to assiduously work towards making the sate the best in the federation.

In his remarks, the National NLC President, Comrade Ayiba Waba represented by the President of Non-Academic Staff Union, NASU, Comrade Chris Ani commended the state government for having the interests of the state workers at heart at all times, saying that the Obiano led administration has proven its workers friendly disposition by reciprocating the good gesture of workers in the state by improving their welfare.

Earlier in his address, the state Chairman of the Union, Comrade Jerry Nnubia commended the National Assembly for the speedy passage of the new National Minimum Wage 2019 Amendment Bill into law, and President Buhari for assenting to and called on the National Salaries, Income and Wages Commission, NSIWC, to immediately issue out the implementation circular to enable Governor Obiano whom he described as labour friendly Governor kick off the implementation in Anambra state.
