The State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Mustapha Dandaura says the command will continue to partner journalists in its fight against crime.

He stated this when the newly elected Executive members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Anambra State Council, paid him a courtesy visit at the Command Headquarters at Amawbia.

Mr Dandaura while asking Media practitioners to always cross check their reports before publication, assured that the Command will always support journalists in the state for effective and smooth discharge of their official duties.

The Commissioner said the Command will as requested by the Nigeria Union of Journalists, assist the professional body in arresting any identified fake journalist operating in the state without belonging to a recognized medium.

Speaking earlier, the State Chairman of the Union, Mr Emma Ifesinachi commended the Nigeria Police for its un-relentless effort towards ensuring effective protection of lives and property as well its cooperation with practicing journalists in the State, calling for its sustenance.

In a remark, the Secretary of the Union, Mr Emma Udeagha called for effective synergy between the security agencies and the Media to drastically reduce fake news and hate speech.

Meanwhile, the May Congress of the State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists will take place tomorrow at Godwin Ezeemo International Press Centre, behind the Central Bank of Nigeria, Awka.

The Congress, which will be the first by the new administration led by Mr Emma Ifesinachi, will commence by two o’clock in the afternoon, with dedication service to seek God’s guidance for the progress of the Union and inauguration of various committee.

A release signed by the Secretary of the Council, Mr Emma Udeagha invites all Chairmen and Secretaries of various Chapels and members of the Union to the Congress.
