The traditional ruler of Alor in Idemili South Local Government Area, Igwe Mac Anthony Okonkwo says, peace and unity are essential for community development.

Igwe Okonkwo stated this at his palace while celebrating the triple events of the reception for the victorious Bronze Medalists from St. John’s Science and Technical College, Alor who emerged third in the International Festival of Engineering, Science and Technology (IFEST) contest held in Tunisia, the inauguration of the new caretaker committee of Alor People’s Convention and the Celebration of the upgrading of the Primary Health Center Alor to a General Hospital by Gov. Willie Obiano.

The events commenced with the royal reception for the Bronze medalists, namely: Messrs Meshak Ugwuishi, Onyedika Chuka-Umeora, Daniel Nwachukwu and Dominic Machi led by their school Principal, Rev. Fr. Dr. Francis Unegbu at the palace of Igwe Okonkwo.

Igwe Okonkwo expressed delight with the honour brought to Alor by the students and promised to intensify his support for the education of the youths in his kingdom in line with Gov. Willie Obiano’s massive investment in education in Anambra state.

While intimating Igwe Okonkwo of the processes that led to their victory in Tunisia, the Principal, of the College Rev. Fr. Unegbu said the International Festival of Engineering, science and Technology (IFEST) is a global competition for youths of eleven to twenty four years to invent an innovative Teacher-Supervised Project and their solar technology for sub- Saharan Africa earned them the third position among thirty- one countries that participated, pointing out that the appreciation and reception of the students by Igwe Okonkwo is a manifestation of his deep concern for education.

The senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Youth Development, Hon Osita Onukor and Caretaker Committee Chairman of Alor People’s Convention, Hon. Okey Elosiuba congratulated the Bronze Medalists for bringing honour to Anambra state and assured them of more support to
achieve more laurels.

Meanwhile the official inauguration of the new caretaker committee of Alor People’s Convention appointed by Governor Willie Obiano to man the affairs of Alor community was also performed at Obi Alor as conducted by the Legal Adviser of the Igwe in- Council, Barr. Ephraim Agubalu, witnessed by the traditional ruler of the town and members of the Igwe- in- Council.

Igwe Okonkwo with the new Caretaker committee and Igwe in – Council proceeded to inspect the Alor Primary Health Center which has been upgraded to a General Hospital by the state government for an enhanced health care delivery to be the people of Alor and environs.
