The Three Day Skill Acquisition Programme for ninety Indigent widows in the state organized by Ministry of Women and Children’s Affairs has ended at Prof Dora Akunyili Women Development Centre, Awka
The training for selected Ninety Indigent Widows across the three senatorial zones of the state was based on production of snacks including chin chin, buns and kpof- kpof.
In her opening remark, the wife of the Governor Dr Mrs Ebelechukwu Obiano who spoke through the Commissioner for Women and Children Affairs Lady Ndidi Mezue reassured the participants that the state government will continue to carry them along in the Scheme of things, advising them not to be depressed as a result of their present condition.
She further commended their enthusiasm towards learning the skills while she assured them of being among those that will be empowered in subsequent programmes.
Also speaking, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of women and children affairs, Dr Azuka Ofomata who was represented by the Director Woman Affairs Department Mrs Hope Ekesiobi who reminded the widows the essence of the training was to improve their standards of living, enjoined them to put into practice what they have learnt to achieve the purpose of the training.
Some of the participants including Mrs Ogechukwu Ekwegbalu from Anambra North and Mrs Nkoli Nwankwo from Anambra South while expressing their delight for the programme , noted that the skill acquired will impact positively in their individual lives and thanked the wife of the Governor for her benevolence, praying for God’s blessings and protection upon her.
They were given stipends to enable them start up ismall businesses .
