Fake Kiwi products worth over eighty million naira found to be imported in the country have been destroyed, on the orders of an Awka based federal high court.

Prior to the enforcement, a federal high court in Awka presided over by Justice Bature Gafai delivered the judgement beyond every reasonable doubt on 18th April 2019.

The products were contained in six lorry loads of cartons of kiwi shoe polish, with over five hundred thousand tins.

The court with the help of the police, other law enforcement agencies and the Standard Organization of Nigeria tested the products and declared them as fake, afterwhich, they were confiscated.

The judgement was on seven persons from different company names.

The enforcement team took off from the Federal high court, Awka where the goods were unloaded to the waiting trucks for onward conveyance to the outsketch of the town where they were set on fire.

Addressing the press shortly after the exercise, Barrister Tagbo Anaeto, Counsel to Asco Limited a company with franchise to imort the Kiwi brand, said that they obtained a court order to prosecute the matter which led to the court victory, adding that the company will hopefully continue to win the fight against people faking their products.

The Managing Director of Asco Limited, Chief Sam Anyanwutaku thanked the Court for ruling in their favor, appreciated law enforcement agencies and the media for thier help in the fight against fake products, stressing that they are battle ready to combat and sustain the fight against fake products in the markets.

While thanking the governement for their efforts through regulatory bodies such as SON, NAFDAC and so on and so forth, he decried the amount of money and stress he puts into the srruggle, trying to eliminate such fake products from publuc space which he said is harmful to the body and the shoes, asking the public to always be mindful of products they purchase from the market.
