Anambra State Government has concluded plans to plant three million trees in various parts of the state next month.
Commissioner for Environment, Architect Michael Okonkwo made this known while addressing Youth Service Corps members serving in Awka South Local Government at Jerome Udoji Secretariat Awka.
Architect Okonkwo urged Corps members under Environmental Sanitation and Protection Community Development Service (CDS) group to partner the Ministry to achieve the ‘Plant a tree’ project across the state.
The Commissioner declared his interest to work with the members urging them to put more effort in sensitizing the public on the need to be environment-friendly.
He noted that Government plan to plant up to three million trees across the state would go a long way in beautifying and controlling erosion menace across the state.
The Schedule Officer, Environmental Sanitation and Protection CDS Group, Mr. John Ukor on behalf of his team, assured the Commissioner of their support towards actualising the project, while the President of the CDS Group, Mr. Jonathan Eze thanked the Commissioner for his hospitality.
