In commemoration of this year’s Children’s Day celebration, Anambra State Fire Service has put selected school children through basic fire safety procedures.
The lecture held at the Fire Service Headquarters, Awka, was aimed at equipping the children with elementary knowledge of firefighting standards with regards to domestic fire control.
The pupils also had theoretical and practical sessions on fire management including what to do when there is fire outbreak, how to put out fire, and the numbers to call in the event of fire outbreak.
While there was a mock demonstration of fire control, the children also toured facilities at the fire service complex.
The Chief Fire Officer and Director of the Anambra State Fire Service, Engineer Martin Agbili, said it was crucial to inculcate early consciousness of fire safety and control on kids, prepare them for the task of dealing with its benefits as well as its menace.
On her part, Mrs. Uche Umejiaku, who led the pupils to the event, said the visit was to satisfy the pupils’ curiosity of fire management and to also keep their eyes open to the dangers of fire abuse.
The pupils, who had taken their turns putting out a miniature fire in a mock fire control, said, among other things, they had understood the concept of fire and what to do when there is an outbreak.
There were also exchange of souvenirs between the pupils and the fire Service Boss .
