The Senate has passed into law, the bill to upgrade the Nwafor Orizu College of Education Nsugbe to Federal University of Education.
The bill sent to the Senate from House of Representatives and which motion was moved by the member Representing Anambra East and West Federal Constituency Honourable Tony Nwoye, on bill 2019, bracket H. B. 1067, scaled through second reading at the end of its debate and referred to the committee of the whole where all the clauses, Schedules One, Two and Three, short and long titles as well as memorandum of understanding of the bill was approved as recommended or
amended.
Afterwards, it was read the third time and passed into law.
Similarly, a motion titled “the threat to Downgrade Akanu Ibiam International Airport Enugu, sponsored by Senator Victor Umeh, representing Anambra Central, and sixteen others were deliberated and passed with six resolutions which are, that the Federal Government of Nigeria and Ministry of Aviation should not consider downgrading of Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu.
The resolution Urged the Federal Government to rehabilitate the runway of Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu for the safety of passengers and aircrafts.
It also urged the Federal Government to take step to complete the new terminal building of the Airport and put it to use by local and foreign airlines, and develop a Water Source with the nearby Ekulu River for the use of the Airport.
The resolution appreciated the Enugu State Government for swiftly demolishing and ordering the relocation of Orie Emene Market, shutting down the nearby Abattoir and ordering the immediate removal of the Broadcasting Mast and other illegal structures around the the Airport.
The resolution equally Urged the Federal Ministry of Aviation to return the removed power generating set of Akanu Ibiam International Airport which was installed in Port Harcourt International Airport.
