The Nigeria Center for Disease Control has set up a Public Health Emergency Operation Center in Anambra State.

The Public Health Emergency Operation Centre Team Leader Dr. Evaristus Aniaku, disclosed this during the training of the Staff of the Centre in Awka.

The Centre will co-ordinate public health emergencies in the State especially those arising from disease outbreaks.

Declaring the training open, the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Josephat Akabuike represented by the Acting Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health, Dr John Ndibe applauded the Nigeria Center for Disease Control for its kind gesture and commended the body for fulfilling its mandate towards providing a healthier and safer Nigeria through the prevention and control of diseases of public health importance.

Dr. Akabuike, noted that the essence of public health emergency operation centre is to contain diseases and ensure that it doesn’t spread to become an outbreak and pointed out that the ability to achieve this depends on the type of Center and capacity building of the Staff.

The Commissioner assured the Nigeria Center for Disease Control team that the State will make good use of the Center, promising that Anambra Public Health Emergency Operation Center will turn out to be one of the best in the country.

The team leader, State Public Health Emergency Operation Center project, Dr Aniaku thanked the State for providing accommodation which Nigeria Center for Disease Control renovated and equipped and explained that the activation of the Public Health Emergency Operation Center will
enhance the co-ordination of response activities during emergencies.

Lectures were delivered on mode of operations of the staff and incident management among others.
