Following the impressive turnout of students and successes recorded at the just concluded Anambra Academicals Championship, the state government has advised school management to set criteria to ensure that all students in school sports team are academically sound to enthrone seriousness.
Governor Willie Obiano gave the advice at Aguata Local Government headquarters, Ekwulobia, during a celebration party organized by the council to celebrate the under seventeen and thirteen category of the Anambra Academicals Championship for making the local government proud.
Community Secondary School Uga and Central School Ekwulobia all in the council area who won both the senior and junior categories of the 2019 Anambra Academicals Championship smiled home with English Dictionaries, textbooks for their school Libraries and individual cash awards among others.
Governor Obiano, who pointed out that a healthy body harbors a healthy mind revealed that the initiative is one of the ways to fight social vices as it takes their thoughts away from social vices.
The Governor who was represented by his Special Adviser on Medical Supplies and Facilities, Mr. Vincent Okpala said that for a student to be listed in the school team such student must be
academically sound as education remains the bedrock of any society.
In their various remarks, the member representing Aguata One Constituency in the State Assembly, Honorable Iyke Umenwa who also doubled as the Chairman of the occasion and the Transition Committee chairman of Aguata Local Government Area, Honourable Eche Ezeibe who said that he
was overwhelmed by the two trophies, noted that success attracts recognition, hence, stakeholders in the council area should appreciate and encourage them to continue in the right part as it will lead them to greater height.
Some dignitaries who spoke at the event, including a former Rector, Federal Polytechnic Oko, who is also an old boy of Central School Ekwulobia, Professor Uba Nwauba, Senior Special Assistant on
Disability Matters, Barrister Chuks Ezewuzie, an APGA Chieftain, Chief Titus Anigbogu and APGA Chairman for Aguata, Chief Ezechukwu while thanking Governor Obiano and the State Sports Development Commission for their good initiative and congratulated the students noting that primary education remains the foundation for a brighter future in the education sector calling for it development.
Responding on behalf of the winning schools, the Principal, Community Secondary School Uga, Mr. Emmanuel Ibeneme and the Headmistress, Central School Ekwulobia, Lady Christiana Nwafor appreciated both the state and local governments for the conducive learning environment provided for children and assured that the schools will continue to do their best in the upbringing of students.
