Anambra State Government has applauded the European Union EU and the World Health Organization WHO for supporting the state in organizing the National Health Workforce Review, Cleaning and Validation Workshop.

The appreciation was conveyed by Commissioner for Health through the Acting Permanent Secretary, Dr John Ndibe during the workshop in Awka.

Dr Ndibe noted that, the EU through WHO in collaboration with the Health Ministry had been trying to develop the state’s human resources for Health database, which had been a critical issue for a long time.

Dr Ndibe said that to validate the database, Heads of Departments and all other stakeholders from different health institutions, Ministry of Health, Primary Healthcare Development Agency were to ensure that the entry made would be correct.

The project manager, EU and WHO Health System Strengthening, Mr. Ndubuisi Oji, noted that the health workforce challenges were global.

He recalled that states were given mandate to develop health workforce to enable the Federal Government know how many workers in the state, where they would be deployed to work, their qualifications and other relevant information.

He observed that the exercise would enhance the distribution of health workforce across primary, secondary and tertiary health institutions.
