It would be recalled that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) conducted Governorship and House of Assembly Elections across the Country on March 23, 2019. Governorship election was not conducted in Anambra State on the said date as a result of the
Supreme Courts tenure interpretation on June 14, 2007, which affirmed that Governor Peter Obis tenure started to count on the day of his swearing in.

This development gave rise to staggering governorship election in Nigeria.

However, the House of Assembly election was held in thirty constituencies in Anambra, involving three hundred and thirty-six Electoral Wards.

Five hundred and eighteen candidates contested the House of Assembly election in the State under the platform of their various political parties.

The outcome of the House of Assembly election saw the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) emerge victorious in twenty-four out of the thirty seats in the State Legislature with six PDP seats.

It was indeed a payback package by Ndi Anambra, especially the State workforce, who were itching for an opportunity to appreciate the good governance of Governor Willie Obiano, particularly to the workers.

No doubt, the outgoing sixth State Assembly, under the leadership of Barrister Rita Maduagwu, has done the State proud in many ways.

The lawmakers performed their legislative functions with a fair sense of responsibility and did well in law making, representation and oversight duties. They passed ninety Bills and numerous Resolutions within four years, which ranks it very high in the history of State Legislatures in Nigeria.

Some of the landmark Bills passed by the outgoing Sixth State Assembly include Anambra State Security/Vigilant Bill; Health Insurance Bill; Disability Rights Bill; Anambra State Polytechnic Establishment Bill as well as the Anambra State House of Assembly Service Commission Bill among others.

The lawmakers worked harmoniously with other arms of government, especially the Executive and also made meaningful contributions to the peace and overall development of the state.

The Sixth Anambra Assembly Lawmakers also recorded giant strides in their various constituencies in terms of building Constituency Projects and Empowerment Programmes. The Speaker of the outgoing Sixth Assembly, Barrister Maduagwu, equally made history by being the first elected Chairman of the South-East Conference of Speakers.

She performed creditably in this position as under her leadership, the five South-Eastern State Legislatures adopted a harmonized Standing House Rule aimed at fostering meaningful development in Igbo land.

The incoming members of the Seventh State Assembly, made up of twenty- nine men and one woman; all of proven integrity, are both mentally and psychological prepared to offer their best to the State.

From the records, the Seventh Assembly has thirteen old members with requisite experience and eager to share same with the seventeen new lawmakers in the onerous and rigorous processes involved in legislative business.

As the Seventh Anambra State House of Assembly will be inaugurated on Wednesday , June 12, 2019, shortly after due proclamation by Governor Willie Obiano, the Seventh Assembly Lawmakers are expected to give their best in the discharge of their legislative duties.

Ndi Anambra are therefore requested to give maximum support to the incoming legislators to enable them surpass the achievements of their predecessors. It is equally expected that the new Lawmakers will maintain cordial relationship with Executive Arm of the Government as well as the Judiciary for the development of the State.

The Clerk of the House, Mr. Pius Udoh, and the entire staff of the Legislature heartily welcome and congratulate the incoming State Assembly members and assure them of maximum co-operation for optimal productivity and great legislative service to Ndi Anambra.
