The Nigerian Union of Teachers, NUT, Borno Chapter has said that about six thousand additional teachers are required to improve the quality of education in the state.

The union also spoke against the back drop of fort mega schools constructed by the government to cater for the education of fifty-three thousand children orphaned by Boko Haram insurgency in the
state.

The Chairman of the NUT, Jibril Muhammed, said in Maiduguri that at least five thousand teachers are required for primary schools while additional one thousand be deployed to secondary schools to boost teaching and learning.

While commending the government for prioritizing education in the state, Mr. Muhammed, who said it should also accord priority to teacher’s welfare, noted that with the necessary motivations for teachers, the problems in their education sector will be solved.

He lamented that teachers were among the worst hit by the Boko Haram insurgency, with about five hundred and thirty killed and thirty-two, thousand displaced.
