Anambra state will soon become a medical tourist haven so as to reduce
the number of transferred health cases outside the state and the
country.
The Commissioner for Health Designate Dr Vincent Okpala stated this
while speaking to journalists in Awka.
Dr Okpala said that the federal government spends about two billion
naira annually on medical tourism which means that achieving medical
tourist haven in Anambra will help boost the state’s internally
generated revenue.
Dr Okpala said that state government has done so much and is still
doing more to promote quality health care delivery.
He disclosed that the Ministry of Health will reach out to foreign
partners and form advisory panel among ndi Anambra who are experts in
that area both at home and in the diaspora so as to harness their
wealth of experience to achieve the aim.
Dr Okpala said that the state’s Health Insurance Scheme has remained
one of the best steps to tackle health problems of the state as it has
provided a funded scheme in the Health Sector, and added that he will
build on that to develop a secondary health scheme that would ensure
that everyone in Anambra has access to quality health care.
