Dr Vincent Okpala has been sworn-in as the new Commissioner for Health
in Anambra State.
The swearing-in ceremony which was supervised by Governor Willie
Obiano took place during yesterday’s State Executive Council Meeting
at the Government House, Awka.
Government House Correspondent, Ejike Abana reports that also at the Executive Council Meeting, Mr Douglas Okafor an Engineerwas sworn in as the new Superintendent-General and Managing Director
of Operation Clean and Healthy Anambra, the OCHA Brigade.
Retired Air Vice Marshal Ben Chiobi was also sworn in as the Special
Adviser to the Governor on Creative Security.
Speaking shortly after the swearing-in ceremony, Governor Obiano who
announced that the immediate past Commissioner for Health, Dr Joe
Akabuike is now the Chairman of Anambra State Health Technology
Institute at Obosi charged the new appointees to do their best by
bringing their rich experience to bear in the discharge of their duties.
The Governor explained that the new Special Adviser on Creative
Security was appointed to further demonstrate his administration’s efforts in sustaining effective security across the State as he hopes his experience will be of immense advantage to the State.
The Governor said that he hopes that the new leader of OCHA BRIGADE
will among other things, help fight illegal revenue collectors in the
State.
Responding, the new Health Commissioner, Dr Okpala who said that Dr Akabuike did a lot in the Health sector,
expressed gratitude that he was given the opportunity to serve in a bid to set out the State as the destination forMedical tourism.
In his farewell speech, Dr Akabuike stressed that change is constant
describing the moment as a turnaround in his career, having served
under Governor Obiano for five years.
While enumerating some of his achievements in the sector, Dr Akabuike
appreciated the Governor and members of the State Executive Council
for their support throughout his tenure as Health Commissioner.
