A 5-time Olympian and two time Bronze medalist, Chief Mary Onyali-Omagbemi has expressed happiness at the high growth of female participation in Sports activities across the Country.
Chief Onyali-Omagbemi was speaking to the ABS during a reception organized at the Governor’s lodge, Amawbia for Anambra State Contingents for the 2018 National Sports Festival.
According to the veteran sports woman, gone are the days when females are pushed aside and relegated to the background on account of gender, as she described herself as an accomplished woman through sports, having won many laurels and garnered so much knowledge and experience.
Chief Onyali-Omagbemi who called for more female to participate in Sports activities, especially Anambra State women, now that the Governor has shown renewed vigour to Sports development, urged sports men and women in the country to complement their sports activities with education so as to go far in life.
Concerning the recent football outing by the Super Falcons of Nigeria who lost one zero to the France female team, Chief Onyali-Omagbemi who is the Anambra State Sports Ambassador said that the issue was purely sports politics, which a generality of Nigerians are yet to understand, expressing optimism that the Nigerian team will make it far in the forthcoming competition.
She however, added that she has heeded the Governor’s Think Home Philosophy Call, as she is on ground to train willing young upcoming sports men and women, to polish them into becoming stars, to make the State Proud in all outings and competitions.
For a one time goal keeper of Rangers International football club, Mr. Emmanuel Okala, the future of sports is bright in Anambra State if the present administration maintain its present tempo.
Mr Okala who is the Special Senior Assistant to the Governor on Sports, urged young upcoming talents from different sports backgrounds to hold firm and sharpen their skills which is capable of taking them to higher places.
The Team had won a total of 48 Medals, 29 in the National Youths Games and 19 in the National Sports Festival.
The medalists were at the ceremony, presented with cheque rewards by Governor Willie Obiano.
