A One day capacity training for Women Co-operative society has ended in Awka, with a call for more proactive measures and productivity among the group.
The training which has its theme as “The new wave on business methods and management” was powered by the Department of Women Affairs, Ministry of Social Welfare, Children and Women Affairs.
The capacity training was aimed at looking for a way forward in improving conditions of co-operative societies.
Declaring the function open, the Commissioner for Social Welfare, Children and Women Affairs, Lady Ndidi Mezue said that such gathering provides an opportunity for learning and exchange of ideas, as well as to improve on all the existing processes on ground stating that skill is very crucial in today’s society.
Lady Mezue asked the participants to ensure they achieve the goals and vision of their Cooperative Societies by being dedicated and showcase what they have.
She promised to monitor every group to ensure they improve.
The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr Azuka Ofomata who said the training is a welcome development noted that it will contribute to the growth and development of Cooperative Societies, charging them to apply all they have learnt for more productivity in their groups.
In an address of welcome, the Deputy Director, Women Affairs, Mrs. Hope Ekesiobi maintained that the essence of the programme was to expose the participants on the new trend of running cooperative society for sustenance and progress.
In a lecture, a Senior Lecturer in Economics Department, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Mrs. Ebele Nwokoye stressed the need for members to be active, study the purpose of which the group is being instituted, and retain earnings so as to fight poverty.
In their separate speeches, some of the participants, including Mrs. Ethel Eruchalu and Mrs Patricia Nnezianya extolled the organizers of the programme, noting that it has exposed them to a way of sustaining their groups and promised to take the training down to other members for more impact and productivity.
