Joint task forces from the Ministries of Social Welfare, Children and
Women Affairs and Transport led by their Commissioners Lady Ndidi
Mezue and Mr. Uchenna Okafor respectively have  commenced  relocation of beggars from Streets in Nnewi.
The action, which aimed at sanitizing the state and paving way for
easy flow of traffic, will also lift the aesthetic beauty of the area.

The team apprehended  seven women and about twenty-five children from
Ezzah, Ebonyi State who were brought to Awka, where the adults will be
rehabilitated and the children enrolled into school.

Speaking shortly after the raid, Lady Ndidi lamented the ugly behavior
of some women who use their wards for alms thereby exposing them to
harsh conditions.

She restated the present administration’s commitment in sanitizing the
state of street beggars and miscreants.

Some of the beggars, including  Mrs. Cecilia Nwankwo and Nneka Sunday who said they make about one thousand, five hundred naira daily, said that
they were on the streets due to financial difficulties  and urgent need to
make a living.
