Anambra State government has commenced desilting of the drainage
channel along the Nise -Amawbia -Nibo road, near the Governor’s Lodge.

The Commissioner for Works,  Mr Marcel Ifejiofor who inspected the pace of work on the project said that it was in-line with Governor Willie Obiano’s directive.

When ABS correspondents arrived the site, a heavy duty machine known as Swamp Buggy was seen carting away debris and other particles from the drains, thereby creating a wide space for free flow of  water.

Speaking after inspecting work on the site, Mr Ifejiofor said that the move was to give commuters clearer view of the road, so as to avoid the ugly incident that occurred last year, when a little girl was
drowned in the drain during an accident.

The Commissioner said that the two kilometer drainage channel will terminate at Nibo, calling on communities within the axis  to give the contractor necessary support.

Mr Ifejiofor called on residents of the state to put an end to dumping
of refuse inside gutters, especially in view of the envisaged flood this year, so that the drains will allow free flow of  water.

On his part, the site Engineer Mr Jacob Inaine, assured government of quality delivery, and promised that he will complete the work by August this year.
