National petroleum Corporation, NNPC, Mr Ndu Ughamadu says the ongoing
National Science Quiz competition being organized by the NNPC is part of efforts by the Corporation to promote Science education in the country in addition to encouraging students in the study of Science and Technology related subjects.
Speaking in an interview with Abuchi Nwozor on the importance of the
competition, Mr Ughamadu maintained that apart from developing students competitive spirit, the competition will equally enable the participants to build friendships among themselves.


He disclosed that thirteen students from public schools across the country have emerged State winners of the 2019 edition of the NNPC National Science School Quiz competition which took place in various
State Capitals on the twenty-sixth of June.
According to Mr Ughamadu, the winners along with their twenty-four
counterparts from private schools will compete at the zonal level
commencing today with South-South, while South-East zone will be on
Wednesday July third as South-West will be on Friday fifth July.


The NNPC spokes person also said that North-Central will take its turn on Monday July eight, North-West Wednesday tenth July and North-East
Friday twelfth July. Mr Ughamadu maintained that the NNPC National Science Quiz competition offers the participants the opportunity not only to demonstrate the stuff they were made but also to psyche up students and rid them of
any complexes they may habour.


It would be recalled that NNPC National Science Quiz competition designed mainly for students in Nation’s secondary Schools was inaugurated in 2000 and limited to participants from Niger-Delta
Region but went national in 2001.
