Anambra State government has presented certificate of recognition to the Traditional Ruler-Elect of Umunnachi in Dunukofia Council Area, Igwe Ben Anochie.

In a similar development, the Traditional Ruler of Ochuche-Umuodu in Ogbaru Council area, Igwe Vincent Ijeomah was presented with certificate of recognition by the State government.

The presentation was performed by Governor Willie Obiano at the Governor’s lodge, Amawbia in a brief ceremony.

The ceremony was attended by Commissioners and other top government functionaries, Traditional Ruler of Onitsha, Igwe Alfred Achebe, Traditional Ruler of Mbaukwu, Igwe Peter Anugwu, Traditional Ruler of Nteje, Igwe Roland Odegbo, Traditional Ruler of Okpuno, Igwe Sunday Okafor, Traditional Ruler of Ifitedunu, Igwe Eluomuno and the Traditional Ruler of Akwa-Ihedi, Igwe J.A.C Onebunne and the Traditional Ruler of Isseke, Igwe Emmanuel Nnabuife.

The Chief Whip who doubles as Member representing Dunukofia Constituency at the State House of Assembly, Barrister Lawrence Ezeudu, his Njikoka Constituency Two cIunterpart, Sir Pete Ibida, State President of Ohaneze Ndigbo, Chief Damian Okeke-Ogene, Transition Committee Chairmen for Dunukofia and Ogbaru Council areas, among others also attended the ceremony.

The certificates brings to fifty five, the number of certificates presented to traditional rulers by the present administration.

Governor Obiano asked the Traditional Rulers to use the opportunity offered by the government recognition to enthrone lasting peace in their Communities.

The Governor expressed optimism that stakeholders and all Community members will rally round the Traditional Rulers in the State government’s quest to foster increased development in Communities across the State.

While pointing out that as the State government continues to do their bit to meaningfully keep the youth in check, Governor Obiano asked them to replicate same in their communities by setting up Committees for such purpose.

The Commissioner for Local government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Chief Greg Obi said that the Governor make such presentations because he understands the importance of the role played by the Traditional institutions.

He explained that Ochuche doesn’t have a constitution than an agreement dated 1977, advising them to do so inorder to prevent future schmishes, stressing that the State government set up a committee who sat and made recommendations that brought the day to limelight.

On the case of Umunnachi, Chief Obi pointed out that they had a traditional Ruler from 1977 to 2006, asking everyone to shun instigating internal strife in their Communities because the State government have the powers to suspend or dethrone such Traditional rulers, stressing that the security of the State remain paramount.

In a comment, the Chairman, Anambra State Traditional Rulers Council, Igwe Alfred Achebe, asked the new Traditional Rulers to rule with patience, peace and tolerance as the winner always initiates reconciliation moves.

The new Traditional Rulers said that they will hit the ground running and promised to initiate ideas that will positively benefit their Communities, carrying everyone along.

Traditional Music rented the air as everyone danced in jubilation.
