Property worth millions of naira has been destroyed by fire at a fourteen room and parlour bungalow located at Saint Stephen’s Road, Inland Town Onitsha.
The said bungalow which was a family house belonging to the Njaka family of Ogbeabo village Onitsha was destroyed beyond repair.
Speaking to the ABS, a staff of the Anambra Newspapers Printing Corporation, the Publisher of National Light Newspapers Mr. Okey Njaka and a retired Railway officer, Mr. Okwudili Njaka recounted that the incident took them unawares as they were unable to save any of their belongings noting that the fire was so intense.
They said that the cause of the outbreak is yet to be ascertained as there was power outage in the area.
Also speaking, their elder brother, Mr. Lawrence Njaka and Mr. Onyechi Njaka said they heard someone shouting from within the building alerting the public of outbreak but before they knew it the fire has engulfed the whole building.
They commended the efforts of some youths who came to help them before the arrival of the fire fighters after one hour adding that their wives and children were not around to salvage their property.
One of their sons, Mr. Chike Njaka who regretted that they are now homeless pointed out that the building is their only hope as they all live with their aged parents and solicited assistance from government and spirited individuals.
