The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission, NERC, says electricity customers will be able to acquire meters without upfront payment starting from next month.

NERC said customers could get meters and pay in installments within one year or a maximum of ten years, with the prices of a one-phase and three-phase meters put at thirty-six thousand, nine hundred and ninety-two naira and sixty-seven thousand, fifty-five naira respectively, exclusive of Value Added Tax.

The regulator disclosed that it approved forty-two Meter Asset Providers, MAP, in April under the MAP Regulation after a rigorous procurement exercise carried out by the eleven electricity distribution companies in the country.
The Commissioner, Finance and Management Services, Mr Nathan Shatti, who stated that although the installations did not commence immediately across the country as anticipated, due to the need to finalise some documentations and also mobilise the supply of meters, expressed happiness that the installation of meters has now commenced across various Discos, franchise areas.
