Anambra State Chief Judge, Justice Ijem Onwuamaegbu has ended her 2019 Jail Delivery services at Awka Prison with the discharge five inmates and bailing of eleven others.
Among those discharged was a thirty-one year old Joseph Eze-Ogbuawo from Ebonyi State who was charged for murder but has stayed eight years awaiting trial, a twenty-four year old Adamu Bello from Kaduna State who has spent six years awaiting trial, a twenty-eight year old Polycap Linus from Taraba State who has equally spent six years awaiting trial.
Others are a thirty-four year old Chibuzor Okafor as well as forty-one year old Sunday Samuel who were charged for defiling a ten year old girl.
Those granted bail were, a seventy-one year old Ikechukwu Ibekwe from Abagana, a fifty-seven year old Moses Muozoba Onukwube from Abagana, Mrs. Ngozi Ijenwa, Ndubuisi Okafor, Chigozie Emesiana, Mohammed Abdullahi, and Mishark Ucheagwu Chukwujekwu among others.
Speaking to the press at the end of the proceedings, Justice Onwuamaegbu thanked all those who made the exercise worthwhile but charged Judicial officials to be more proactive and responsive in the discharge of their duties, so that no Innocent Soul would be incarcerated for their misconduct or negligence.
Justice Onwuamaegbu was accompanied by other four Judges while a final year Law students of Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka witnessed the proceedings.
