Many lives would have been lost to an inferno that occurred yesterday
at the National Emergency Management Agency’s Response Unit, at
Central Business Area of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

The office was torched by some protesters, believed to be supporters
of the detained Shiite Moslem group leader, El Zakzakky.

Our Abuja Bureau Chief, Ekwi Ajide quotes some eye witnesses, as
saying that the over one thousand protesters had an intention of
attacking the Ministry of foreign affairs but could not succeed.

Meanwhile, the Director-General of NEMA, Alhaji Mustapha Maihaja,
described the attack as strategic  and wondered why any group will
attack a public facility.

He advised the group to toe the path of dialogue while calling for
more vigilance from all quarters.
