A United States -based surgeon from Umuchukwu in Orumba South Local Government Area, Dr Godwin Maduka, says he will continue to support Governor Willie Obiano’s developmental efforts in Anambra state.
Dr Mmaduka gave the promise during his conferment of the chieftaincy title of Okeosisi Orumba by Orumba South Local Government Area in collaboration with the Orumba South Traditional Rulers’ Council, at Umunze, the Council Headquarters.
Blessing Uchendu reports that Dr Mmaduka who was honoured alongside his wife as “Ugo ka ibe ya mma”, said he will continue to provide humanitarian services to the needy and the less privileged in the society, and expressed joy at the unique recognition.
He appreciated Ndi Orumba for the honour, praying God for strength to work harder to justify the confidence reposed in him and promised to build a multi- purpose hall in Orumba South secretariat to support Governor Obiano’s infrastructural development.
In a welcome address, the Transition Committee Chairman of Orumba South Local Government Area, Chief Raymond Onyegu, who noted that the event was aimed at rekindling the spirit of love and unity, and equally to recognize hard work and achievements of exceptional people, charged those present to always strive to contribute their quota to the development of the Local Government Area.
Chief Onyegu described Dr Mmaduka as a major stakeholder in community development in the State.
Earlier in an opening remark, the chairman of the occasion who is also the Traditional Ruler of Enugwu-Umuonyia, Igwe Peter Ezeamama, expressed delight at the chieftaincy title bestowed on one of their own, praying for God’s blessings upon him.
Speaking to newsmen, the Traditional Ruler of Owerre-Ezukala, Igwe Thomas Ogbonnaya, and the Woman Leader of Orumba South, Mrs Veronica Adinchezor, described Dr Mmaduka as a man of the people, noting that the title is a testament to his support to humanitarian service to their community and society at large.
