Women have been challenged to live up to the responsibility of child upbringing.
A University Lecturer, Dr Mrs. Ekwutosi Ochiagha, gave the charge at Umuzocha Village Hall, Awka, during the third Annual Home and Abroad General Meeting of Awka Development Union Women’s Wing.
The general meeting sponsored by Abuja branch was themed ‘Only by faith can we walk, not by sight” and attracted representatives from the thirty three villages that make up the community.
Dr Mrs. Ochiagha while deliberating on a proper way to raise a child said it requires a self denial to train morally sound and excellent children, advising the women to make prayer their watch word and have a family altar where they will commune with God .
The President General, Awka Development Union, Women’s Wing (ADUN) Barrister Mrs Oge Ekweozor in a welcome address, called on the government to check the rising cases of cultists, eradicate completely robbery and cultism and assist them with a piece of land to build their hall.
The leader of Abuja branch, Mrs. Nkemakonam Anwuna, appreciated God for the gathering, stating that God created and equipped women to uphold their families and the nation, calling on them to be careful in all their dealings as their wards are looking up-to them as role model .
For the Chairperson, Port Harcourt branch, Mrs. Zeelinjo Igweze, women should get acquainted with the new innovation in information technology so as to monitor day to day activities of their children, adding that with dialogue they will achieve the desired objectives and advised women to work as a team to achieve their aim.
The women during the meeting recognized some Awka daughters with meritorious awards for their dedication and support to the development and well being of ndi Awka.
Correspondent, Amaka Chibuzor Okoye reports that performance by Madam Evlyn Nwora who has attained one hundred and ten years, cutting of cake and other side attractions added glamour to the event.
