Anambra state government has initiated measures to tackle the challenge of incessant flooding of Ogidi community in Idemili North Council area whenever it rains.
Works correspondent, Ngozi Obileri reports that the Commissioner for Works Engineer Marcel Ifejiofor who led a team of consultants, members of Tenders Board for road construction and erosion control in the state led by its chairman who is also the Commissioner for Youths Entrepreneurship and Creative Economy Mr Afam Mbanefo, Permanent Secretary Ministry of Works Mr Emeka Ohuoha and other Directors in the Ministry said the Ministry was directed by Governor Obiano to embark on thorough study of the area and come up with a lasting solution to it.


The group on arrival toured various parts of the community who are facing hardship due to the situation including the palace of the traditional ruler of the community Igwe Onyido whose compound is threatened by the flood, and other compounds and farmlands.
After the tour, Engineer Ifejiofor appreciated the consultant for doing a good job by exposing the best way to channel the water from the catchment pit along the Ogidi-Afor igwe market road, on the Enugu-Onitsha express road, which is the major cause of the problem.


He said that government has engaged a reputable and renowned Contractor, the “Niger Cat”, to handle the job, and appreciated Ndi Ogidi for their patience so far, promising that the contractor will mobilise to site as soon the rains subsides.
Speaking on behalf of the community, Engineer Sunny Okoye who is the Managing Director Orient petroleum Resources, lamented that they have encountered a lot of hardships because of the situation, thanking Governor Obiano for coming to their rescue.
Engineer Okoye promised that they will cooperate with the contractor since according to him, it is all for the interest of their community
