The Commissioner for Works Engineer Marcel Ifejiofor has confirmed that the designed for the control of the One Hundred Foot Road erosion project Uruagu, Nnewi , in Nnewi North council area has been completed by the Consultant. Engineer Ifejiofor made the confirmation after inspecting the design and level of devastation caused by the erosion in the area.
The state government had provided palliative measure to check the erosion which was damaged recently by the rains.
In other to fore stall future reoccurance , Governor Obiano asked the Ministry of Works to initiate permanent solution to combat the erosion.
The visit to the sight by the Ministry of Works and the Tenders Board confirmed that the design will have a lasting control of the erosion.
Engineer Ifejiofor said that the contractor will mobilise to sight immediately as directed by the Governor, regretting that a lot of property has been destroyed by the gully erosion.
He noted that the Hundred Foot Road has been cut off, while a lot of housesand other properties have caved inside the gully while many more are on the verge of falling inside the erosion.
The Commissioner called on the federal government to help the state government in tackling erosion challenges facing it, as most of the gullies are beyond state’s capacity.
Also speaking , the chairman Anambra state Due Process Tenders Board, Mr Afam Mbanefo who is the Commissioner for Youths Enterprenuership and Creative Economy, said the site is a priority project for the governor and that the site will receive immediate action .
The Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Budget and Monitoring, Mr Melie Onyejepu, on behalf of the community thanked Governor Obiano for responding promptly to their call by first of all providing a palliative on the project.
He commended the team for the visit which he said has given hope to his people.
