Based on Ayamelum Local Government Areas comparative advantage in rice
production, the Federal government-IFAD-VCDP has sited an APEX Rice
Mill complex worth over two hundred million Naira in the area.
The project which is ninety per cent complete will be officially inaugurated in November this year.
The complex housing the rice mill, aggregation centre, per-boiling and
drying sheds, warehouse and water scheme among others is for VCDP beneficiaries in the Local Government Area.
Speaking to the beneficiaries at the Aggregation Centre in the complex, during the training of processors and nutrition dense entrepreneurs on personal hygiene, work place safety and environmental situation, the Senior Standard Officer, Standards Organization of Nigeria, Mrs Anne Osakwe said they came to train the beneficiaries on what is expected of them by Standards Organization of Nigeria before they commence production.
Mrs Osakwe explained that the visit is not part of their proper inspection but to see a factory that is yet to commence operations and advised them on what to do before they can go into MANCAP
certification.
She advised them to procure parlets for storage of raw materials, proper use of Personal Protective Equipment, Hygiene process and medical report of workers among others.
Earlier in his address, the State Agro Processing and Quality Enhancement Officer, Federal Government-IFAD VCDP, Mr Bonaventure Muochebe appealed to them to maintain a healthy environment, make appropriate use of the first aid box and fire extinguisher procured for them.
The Ayamelum Local Government APEX Group Chairman Mr Peter Emeka promised to abide by all the advice given to them by the Standards Organization of Nigeria for their products to be certified.
Mr Emeka who announced that they have already concluded plans on the land scaping of the complex and packaging bags, noted that they have also registered with the Ministry of Commerce and Industry and presently on the process of registering with Cooperate Affairs
Commission.
