The President General of Ohaneze Ndigbo worldwide, Chief Nnia Nwodo, has commended the “Think Home Philosophy” of some illustrious Igbo sons and daughters in heeding to the calls by successive governments of Anambra State to help build a virile Igbo nation and a progressive Nigeria.
Chief Nwodo stated this at Abagana, Njikoka local government area, during the celebration of this year’s New Yam Festival of Onowu Abagana who is also the President of Igbo World Assembly, Dr. Nwachukwu Anakwenze.
He commended Dr. Anakwenze, former President of Anambra State Associations in the United States of America, ASA-US, for galvanizing the Igbo in Diaspora and celebrating the Igbo culture consistently both in Nigeria and abroad, saying that this will help save Igbo language and culture from going into extinction.
Chief Nwodo however, expressed worries about crises rocking some branches of the apex Igbo socio-cultural organization, including Ghana and London, and also expressed worries about security challenges facing the nation and called for urgent and stringent measures to arrest the situation.
In his speech, Dr. Anakwenze, who is the traditional Prime Minister of Abagana, assured that his interest in sustaining the Igbo culture would not wane.
According to him, the Igbo in the Diaspora have established Igbo schools in Atlanta and Virginia with the teaching of Igbo language and culture as major subjects.
An indigenous Priest of the town, Monsignor Basil Nwazojie, affirmed that the Church identifies with traditions and cultures that do not negate the doctrines of the Church and prayed for God’s Blessings.
The traditional ruler of Abagana, Igwe Mbamalu Okeke, while breaking the kola nuts, spoke of the need to preserve the Igbo cultural heritage for posterity.
Also speaking, the Transition Committee Chairman, Njikoka local government area, Chief George Ozo, said the ceremony was in line with government’s desire to keeping the Igbo rich cultural heritage aglow.
Highlights were cutting and eating of roasted yams, cultural dance by the Onowu and the dignitaries as well as presentations of Awards and gifts to the Traditional Prime Minister by various individuals and groups.
