Anambra State Government is to upgrade facilities at Nawgu General Hospital in Dunukofia Local Government Area for improved service delivery. The Commissioner for Health, Dr Vincent        Okpala who  disclosed this during an inspection visit to the facility said the interventions is part of measures to take healthcare services across the State to the next level by giving everybody irrespective of location easy access to quality healthcare.

The Commissioner was accompanied to the visit by the Member representing Dunukofia Constituency at the State House of Assembly Honorable Lawrence Ezeudu, Executive Secretary Anambra Health Insurance Scheme Dr Simeon Onyemaechi, the traditional ruler of Nawgu  Igwe George Okaa-Onwuogu, some political appointees and personnel of the Ministry of Health.

The visit was to inspect and access facilities in the hospital to enable government to evaluate in strategic manner the required interventions to achieve the set goals.He explained that the present administration is determined to  consolidate on remarkable achievements already recorded  in all parts of the State in providing functional health system According to the Commissioner, the Government will among other things improve  the facilities in the hospital,  increase the workforce and ensure provision of essential drugs. He commended the community for its contributions towards maintaining the hospital.

 The member representing Dunukofia Constituency at the State House of Assembly Honorable Ezeudu in his remarks expressed confidence that the state government’s interventions including provision of security would turn around the facility to serve the health needs of the people. He noted that Obiano’s adminitration is setting the pace in healthcare delivery, pointing out that the recent  launching of Oxygen Plant and Health Insurance Scheme would totally transform the state’s healthcare system, assuring that the Assembly would continue to give the Governor the necessary support  to achieve the set goals. 


Also speaking, the Executive Secretary of Anambra State Health Insurance Scheme, Dr Onyemaechi , said the Agency has adopted the hospital for the implementation of the scheme and is accessing the readiness of various health facilities for the programme with a view to collaborating  with stakeholders in the areas to upgrade them to specified standard to meet accreditation for the scheme.

He explained that the Health Insurance Scheme is aimed at giving people of the State easy access to quality health services wherever they are irrespective of  their social status to achieve universal health coverage.

The traditional ruler of the Community, Igwe  Okaa-Onwuogu in his remarks noted that the hospital is strategically located to serve not only the people of the community but also the neighboring communities in the entire area and commended Governor Obiano for his rural development policies which he said the community has benefited from immensely. 

In her reaction,  the Doctor in charge of the hospital, Dr Chinasa Okeke requested among other things more health personnel,  security, sources of regular power and water supply .
