Anambra state Commissioner for Works, Engineer Marcel Ifejiofor has assured Communities in the state with ongoing road projects of completion of the jobs, by the end of the rainy season.


The Commissioner stated this in Awka in reaction to the appeal for completion of Achina – Onneh – Agbudu – Ogboji road.
The appeal was made by people of Achina, Onneh, Agbudu, Umuomaku, Ogborji and Enugwu-Umuonyia, under the auspices of Amaiyi Youth Assembly of the Old Aguata Local Government.


Correspondent, Ejike Abana reports that members of the community stressed their point with placards to register their unhappiness with the unpalatable state of the road.


According to Commissioner Ifejiofor, the road which is in two batches of five point three kilometres and two kilometers each, is being handled by Estrada Construction, adding that over one kilometer of the road has been asphalted.


While empathizing with the members of the community, Commissioner Ifejiofor emphasized that the contractor will come back to site as soon as the rains abated, and explained that in doing the road, they had challenges, major of which was that the drainage system was not properly discharged, as it was wrongly terminated at a place where there is erosion.


According to the Works commissioner, they redesigned the road to channel the flood to the right place.
Earlier, when the ABS arrived at the road which leads to Ekwuluobia, through Peter University, Achina and other adjourning communities, it noticed that make shift bridges were constructed to navigate the road which had been badly torn by deep gully at different portions.


Speaking on behalf of youth leaders from the six Communities, Mr Otitochi Okeke who commended the Governor for his people oriented plans and policies including the light up Anambra project ‘and Community choose your project initiative, explained that the road is key to their wellbeing, and will add to the agricultural transformation of the State government.


Also speaking, Mrs Helen Ezechukwu, a trader at Nkwo ogbeh market Nkwelle Otu, along the road explained that sales have been adversely affected, as people from neighboring communities no longer patronize them.

At St Joseph’s Catholic Church, sited along the road in Achina, Reverend Father Vincent Nwokoye who expressed belief that government and well meaning individuals will complete the road, said that the state of the road has affected church attendance, adding that even portions of church property are being gradually eroded.
