Some communities in the state have keyed into the World Bank-assisted Community and Social Development Project to construct basic social infrastructures for all round development of the state.

 The communities received different amounts of money from the state Community and Social Development Agency World Bank-assisted for their micro projects as contained in their Community Development Plans, CDPs or Group Development Plans, GDPs approved by the World Bank. The communities are Urum, and Amanuke in Awka North council area that received over one million naira cheque each while Nawgu, in Dunukofia Council Area received over one million cheque being the thirty percent first tranche of the total cost of their various micro projects. 

Addressing the communities, the General Manager, Anambra State Community and Social Development Agency, Mr. Chudi Mojekwu said that the project which is the brain child of Governor Willie Obiano is aimed at developing the poorest of the poor communities in the state. While noting that the project is demand driven where communities choose their desired projects, Mr. Mojekwu encouraged them to rally round members of the Community Project Management Committee, CPMC to ensure speedy completion of the projects. The traditional ruler of Nawgu, Igwe George Okaa-Onwuogu, who described the project as first of its kind in the state, extolled Governor Obiano for keying into it testifying that it will provide them with basic amenities that will improve their lives. The Chairman, Community Project Management Committee Nawgu, Chief Chuks Ilozue, his Urum and Amanuke counterparts, Mr. Obiesili Amechi and Mr. Simon Oraekwe said they embarked on fact finding to know what their communities needed most and promised judicious use of the money. 

Nawgu community chose to build doctor’s quarters and VIP toilet, Amanuke chose construction of a market while Urum chose to build Corpers lodge.
