Nkpunando Community in Anambra East Local Government Area has received a cheque for more than two million naira from Anambra State Community and Social Development Agency World Bank assisted Community-based programme for the renovation of its Health Centre.


The money is the first thirty percent tranche of over eight million naira, the total cost of the project as contained in their Community Development Plan, approved by the World Bank.


Correspondent, Ebele Ezeh reports that the General Manager, Anambra State Community and Social Development Agency, Mr. Chudi Mojekwu presented the cheque to the Chairman, Nkpunando Community, Chief Stephen Edochie in the presence of the Community members after a tour of the Health Centre.


Making the presentation, Mr. Mojekwu who charged them to expedite action on completing the project and commence another, assured of availability of fund.
He urged them to strictly comply with the specifications, be transparent and prudent in the management of resources.


The traditional ruler of the Community, Igwe Alexander Edoziemuno, noted that they are in dire need of a functional health centre and a resident doctor hence the reason why they selected men of proven integrity as members of the committee.


Receiving the cheque, Chief Edochie promised to execute the project according to specifications and on time.
In an interview shortly after a tour of the dilapidated Health Centre, the only staff Nurse deployed to the Health Centre, Mrs Theresa Ejike, appealed for hospital equipment, more staff and vehicles on completion of the project.


In a vote of thanks, the Speaker, Ruling Council of Nkpunando community, Chief Onyeaka Ejimofor commended the State government and the World Bank for giving them a sense of belonging.
