Anambra State government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Transmission Company of Nigeria, TCN to undertake the design, development, construction, testing and investment of  power  substation projects .The MOU was signed at the State Executive Council Chambers, Government House, Awka.

Government House Correspondent, Ejike Abana reports that Governor Willie Obiano signed on behalf of the State government, while Fatuma Muhtar, the Company Secretary signed on behalf of TCN.


The first phase of the MoU is for the construction of two by sixty MVA 132/33 KV substation at Oba/Ojoto, two by sixty MVA substation at Nnewi, sixty MVA, 132/33 KV substation at GCM Onitsha, as well as completion of 132/33KV substation at Ifitedunu and has eighteen months completion time.


The second phase is for the construction of two by one hundred and fifty MVA 330/132/33KV substation at Amansea/Awka, two by sixty MVA 132/33KV substation at Aguleri and two by sixty MVA 132/33KV substation at Ekwulobia/Umuchu.


Governor Obiano, who expressed optimism that the facility will bring improved power supply across the State, assured the company of  access to right of way, calling on affected communities to give them support.The Governor  noted that  improvement in power will  further open up doors of investment in the State because the first and second phases capture communities in the three senatorial districts. The Commissioner for Public Utilities, Mr. Emeka Ezenwanne said the provision of the transmission infrastructure, will  facilitate  massive power infrastructure in the state. Also speaking, the General Manager of Engineering in TCN, Mr. Geofery Nwokoye announced that the first phase of the project has been already awarded, adding that the collaboration with the State government is to ensure smooth and prompt delivery of the projects.While describing the collaboration as reliable, the chairman of the State Power Committee, Mr. Chike Okonkwo said the project on completion, will accommodate  parts of the state  that are presently without power infrastructure. It would be recalled that TCN owns and operates electricity transmission network system in Nigeria and  provides  services for the transmission of electricity from one location to another.
