Anambra state government has restated its commitment to helping young
Ndi Anambra in harnessing their skills through its support and
investment in various communities.
Governor Willie Obiano made the pledge during this year’s
International Youth Day celebration held at Dr Alex Ekwueme Square,
Awka.


Government House Correspondent, Ejike Abana  reports that  thousands of Anambra youths, state government functionaries, State
Chief Judge, Justice Ijem Onwuamaegbu, members of the State and
National Assemblies, Traditional rulers, members of the State Chapter
of National Youth Council, among others yesterday, thronged the Dr
Alex Ekwueme Square, Awka to celebrate this year’s International Youth
Day with theme “Transforming Education“.


Governor Obiano during the celebration said that his administration is
committed to empowering young people to build their skills and harness
them for the future, adding that his government has not failed in
celebrating the positive impact of youths in their community.
The Governor explained  that the theme  of the celebration seeks to give attention to qualitative education, pointing out that his administration   has continuously invested in education.


 While  stating  that fifty-two percent of his appointees are youths,
Governor Obiano announced that government plans  to establish a film
village and upgrading sports facilities in schools, among
others. 


The Commissioner for Youth Entrepreneurship and Creative Economy, Mr.
Afam Mbanefo explained  that education is not only formal l schooling but also involves training in various entrepreneurship skills to ensure that youths are meaningfully engaged. 


The State Chairman of National Youth Council of Nigeria, Mr. Samuel
Egwuatu  in his remarks said that the day seeks to draw government attention to issues surrounding youths and reminded the Governor that they have consistently aligned themselves with his programs for the State, and appealed for a youth house, youth subvention, branded vehicles, among others. 


The Governor later lunched the triple Initiative, Smart jobs platform
and the Youth TV, awards presentation, among others.
Popular Umunze born Flavour, Awkuzu born Slow Dogg, among others,
entertained the crowd.
