The Commissioner for Public Utilities and Water Resources, Mr Emeka
Ezenwanne says Anambra State is the highest beneficiaries of water
sanitation and hygiene Programme sponsored by Donor Agencies.
He stated this when he led a delegation from European Union, UNICEF
and government of Burkina Faso to Anambra East Local Government
headquarters Otuocha.
Mr Ezenwanne represented by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry,
Reverend Polycarp Amanzechukwu said the state government has committed large sums of money into the water scheme.
He maintained that the delegation was in the area to access
value of their partnership, advising the people to ensure that all
projects in their domain are secured.
The European Union representative, Mrs Kate Kaenebi said the WASH Unit
should ensure sustainability, stating that staff of the Council should
encourage all the communities to be part of the programme.
In their goodwill messages, the UNICEF representative Mr Michael
Forson and the Deputy Director, Federal Ministry of Water Resources
Abuja, Mr Emma Eze said they are looking at how the facility should be protected and expressed satisfaction with the performance of the Agbudu Ani Nando in managing water for a healthier living.
Earlier in his speech, the Director of Water Resources in the
Ministry, Mr Victor Ezekwo said that Anambra East is one of the
four Local Government Areas the European Union and UNICEF is
supporting with water supply and sanitation sector reforms programme,
noting that they were chosen because of their interventions and best
practices towards the projects .
In his response, the Transition Committee Chairman for Anambra East
Local Government Area, Mr Obi Nweke represented by Head of Local
Government Administration, Mr Kenneth Nwosu, assured the team that
their efforts will not be in vain and commended Governor Willie Obiano
for his prompt payment of counterpart funding.
