Ten thousand three hundred and ninety-five less-privileged persons drawn from one hundred and eighty-nine Anambra communities were reached as wife of the Governor of Anambra State, Dr Mrs Ebelechukwu Obiano, ended her humanitarian tour to the twenty-one Local Government Areas of Anambra State in Anambra East.
The less-privileged persons made up of widows, the aged, disabled and children, came from each community that make up a particular Council Area.
Coming off from Umuanaevili in Eziagulu village Aguleri, where she handed over keys to a four-room bungalow to a 40-year-old indigent widow, Mrs Joy Mokwugwo, courtesy of her NGO, Caring Family Enhancement Initiative, CAFE, Dr Mrs Obiano was welcomed at the venue of the tour by over one thousand residents who threw her a special reception.
Note that the 2019 L.G.A Tour which the governor’s wife began twelve days ago is her fifth in the last five years, making her the first governor’s wife since the creation of Anambra State to have done so.
Addressing the people, Dr Mrs Obiano said she was overwhelmed by the reception given her by the people, maintaining that the support of her people has become a major factor in her life.
While reaffirming her belief in showing practical love to the poor, the governor’s wife said it has always been a thing of passion for her to see smiles on the faces of the downtrodden, and charged people with the means always give in order to tap from the blessings of charity.
On the free skills acquisition programmes run by her NGO, CAFE, Dr Mrs Obiano advised youths to embrace any of their choice programmes to keep themselves busy and become financially independent.
The member Representing Anambra East and West Constituency at the Federal House of Representatives, Chief Chinedu Obidigwe, said that the present administration has made Anambra East a strong voice in governance, something that has eluded the area since the creation of Anambra State.
The Chief of Staff to the Governor of Anambra State, Chief Primus Odili, who adopted one hundred persons into the Anambra State Health Insurance Scheme, and also donated thirty hair dryer machines to CAFE along with the Commissioner for Works, Engineer Marcel Ifejiofor, said that Dr Mrs Obiano was living her life in line with the tenets of love, and has shown consistently that her compassion for the indigent is unwaning.
The Member Representing Anambra East at the Anambra State House of Assembly, Pharmacist Obinna Emenaka, noted that the governor’s wife has surpassed her counterparts because she has placed charity above selfish goals despite her social status.
Earlier in his opening remark, the Transition Committee Chairman of Anambra East Local Government Area, Mr Obinna Nweke, described the governor’s wife as a role model who has refused to be distracted in her fight for a society that understands the difficulties of the poor people.
The Executive Secretary of Anambra State Health Insurance Agency, ASHIA, Dr Simeon Onyemaechi, who also joined the governor’s wife touring the twenty-one Council Areas to teach people importance of the scheme, said the response has been positive with over sixty thousand people already registered in the scheme, and described the programme as a cardinal legacy of the Willie Obiano’s administration.
Anambra East, the local government origin of Governor Willie Obiano, has eleven communities.
