The Federal Ministry of Environment in Collaboration with Yobe state Government have flagged off a three million Tree Planting campaign, to combat desertification in Nangere Local Government Area of the state.
The Yobe state Governor, Mai Mala Buni expressed appreciation to the federal government, noting that it would go a long way in combating the threat posed by desertification.
Mala Buni stated that Yobe is among front line states most prone to desertification.
He said that, the desertification threat had for a long time only been minimally addressed in the state, but expressed happiness that the federal Ministry of Environment is partnering with Yobe state government to aggressively fix the situation.
To this end, the partnership has provided three million tree seeds to distribute for a tree planting campaign in Nangere over the next three years in order to combat desertification.
The Yobe Government called on residents of the area to cultivate habit of planting trees in their environs.
