Anambra State House of Assembly has passed a resolution urging Governor Willie Obiano to direct the Commissioner for Transport to order Anambra Traffic Management Agency and other outfits such as Willie workforce and Onitsha North Traffic Authority saddled with such responsibilities to ensure that single lane culture is maintained for motorists plying all the trunk B roads in the State.
The House passed the resolution following a motion sponsored to that effect by the member representing Onitsha North Constituency One, Mr Douglas Egbuna during yesterdays plenary in Awka.
House of Assembly Correspondent, Chukwuemeka Modilim was there and reports that Anambra State Law on traffic, made provision for the establishment of ATMA and saddled the agency with the responsibility of directing and controlling traffic on public highways in the State, decongesting traffic and clear obstruction on public highways in the State.
It is on that note that Mr Egbuna sponsored the motion and urged the Governor to direct the agency to confiscate, remove any vehicle creating congestion on the highways or improperly parked to end traffic congestion on the trunk B roads in the state.
On his part, the member representing Oyi Constituency, Mr Charles Obimma lamented that lack of maintenance of single lane culture on trunk B roads by motorists has always resulted to unnecessary traffic congestion in major cities of the state, thereby causing road users to spend hours on a thirty minutes journey.
In their contributions, the member representing Anambra East Constituency, Chief Obinna Emeneka, his Dunukofia Constituency counterpart, Chief Lawrence Ezeudu and the member representing Onitsha North Constituency, Mr Edward Ibuzo also stressed the need for ATMA to be alive to their responsibilities to end traffic congestion in the State.
Speaker of the House, Mr Uchenna Okafor described the motion as a step in the right direction. On a matter of urgent public importance, the House passed a resolution urging Governor Willie Obiano to direct the Commissioners for Works and Environment to as a matter of urgency checkmate and avert the possible dangers of the overflow of Mamo River Bridge and flooding between Okpeze and Amaetiti communities in Orumba North Constituency.
The House passed the resolution after the member representing the constituency, Chief Emeka Aforka informed them that the people of the affected communities have been trapped for days as a result of overflow of the bridge occasioned by the recent torrential rain fall that occurred in the State.
